About FinShield Law
We Started This Firm Because
Someone Had To.
Fintech was supposed to democratize finance. Instead, a generation of companies learned to use compliance frameworks as weapons against the very consumers they claimed to serve. We built FinShield Law to be the answer to that.
The Origin
FinShield Law was founded after its partners spent years watching the same pattern repeat: a consumer opens an account with a fintech app or neobank, deposits their money, and then — without warning, without explanation, and without recourse — their account is frozen. Their funds are held. And the institution hides behind regulatory language that was never intended to justify what they're doing.
The Patriot Act was written to stop terrorism financing. The Bank Secrecy Act was written to prevent money laundering. KYC and AML frameworks were designed to protect consumers from fraud. These are good laws. But they have been systematically misused by fintech companies and BaaS providers who discovered that invoking 'compliance' is a convenient way to hold consumer funds indefinitely — and that most consumers have no idea how to fight back.
We do. FinShield Law exists to close that gap. We know the regulations better than the institutions that misuse them. We know exactly which rules they're breaking, how to document it, and how to make them stop.
Our Mission
To ensure that every consumer who has been harmed by fintech abuse, BaaS exploitation, or the weaponization of financial regulation has access to legal representation that can actually win.
Precision Over Volume
We take cases we can win. Every demand letter we send is targeted. Every regulatory filing we make is documented. We don't flood institutions with paperwork — we send the right document at the right time.
No Upfront Cost
Consumers who have had their funds seized don't have money to pay legal fees. We work on contingency. We don't get paid until you do.
Honest Assessment
We tell every prospective client the truth about their case — including when we think they shouldn't pursue it. We don't take cases we can't win just to collect fees.
Systemic Change
Individual case wins matter. But we also use regulatory filings, documented patterns, and litigation to push institutions toward compliance practices that prevent harm in the first place.
The Team
The Attorneys
Alexandra Mercer
Founding Partner
BaaS platform liability, Regulation E enforcement, CFPB litigation
Alexandra spent eight years at the CFPB's enforcement division before founding FinShield Law. She has led enforcement actions against some of the largest fintech platforms in the country and understands exactly how institutions think about regulatory risk — and how to use that against them.
Daniel Osei
Partner
BSA/AML compliance failures, Patriot Act misuse, OCC and FinCEN filings
Daniel's background is in bank regulatory compliance — he spent six years advising financial institutions on BSA and AML implementation before switching sides. He knows every argument institutions make to justify holding consumer funds, and he knows exactly why those arguments fail.
Priya Nair
Senior Associate
UDAAP enforcement, fintech deception, FTC Act litigation
Priya focuses on the consumer protection side of fintech abuse — deceptive marketing, misrepresented FDIC coverage, hidden fees, and terms of service violations. She has handled over 400 individual consumer cases and has never lost one that went to trial.
How We're Different
We Come From Inside the System
Our attorneys have worked at the CFPB, at bank compliance departments, and at regulatory agencies. We don't just know the law — we know how institutions think, how they make decisions, and what makes them move.
We Focus Exclusively on This
FinShield Law does not handle divorces, personal injury, or estate planning. We do one thing: consumer protection against fintech and financial institution abuse. That focus is why we win.
We Document Everything
Every case we handle builds a record. Regulatory filings, demand letters, institutional responses — we document patterns that help future clients and create pressure for systemic change.
We Go to Court When We Have To
Most firms avoid litigation because it's expensive and uncertain. We don't. We have a 100% court win rate because we only litigate cases we've already built to win.
Ready to Fight Back?
Tell us what happened. We'll review your case free, give you our honest assessment, and if we take it — we go to work at no upfront cost to you.
